About Us
Tollhaus is a small, family run, breeding kennel in the suburbs of Chicago. My mom and I are the owners of two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Ivy & Ruby, and one Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (or Toller), Addison. The whole family is involved in caring for and training these dogs. My brothers, Mark and Jake, have worked with both Berners in obedience, rally and tracking. I train Addison in agility, obedience, rally, and tracking and I am the owner-handler on all dogs when it comes to conformation. My mom has worked with the girls in all venues including agility with Ivy. But, she really enjoys showcasing the Berners' true working ability in drafting. Look for any one of us in all of these venues because we love working with our dogs and showing off their talents.
We got started in Bernese Mountain Dogs because we are proud of our Swiss heritage and therefore celebrate our favorite Swiss breed. We love their gentleness, playfulness, and their enthusiasm when it comes to working in any of the activities we ask of them. We have owned Berners since 2005.
We got our first toller in 2007. At first, we were interested in their working drive and high energy. And we were pleasantly surprised when we found that Tollers can turn off the energy and be great couch potato companions. But, its not too long before they want you get up and take them somewhere to do something fun. We are having our first litter of Toller puppies in 2009. Check out our other pages for more info.
At Tollhaus Kennels, we feed and recommend a raw food diet for optimum health, nutrition and development. We are also advocates of limited vaccine protocols. Please ask for more information.
